September turned out to be another fairly quiet month for Saro and me, but it was one filled with steady progress and small victories. We spent the first week of the month preparing for the few shows we had scheduled, focusing on strengthening her muscles and fine-tuning some of her little quirks. I wanted to make sure we were both feeling confident and in top form for the events ahead.
Our first show of the month was the Warkworth Fair. Although our barrel and pole runs didn’t go quite as planned, Saro gave her best effort every time. Despite the rough start, she stayed focused and determined, and we ended up placing third in our favorite event—keyhole! That one run completely turned the day around and reminded me how much heart she has. I couldn’t have been prouder of her.
After Warkworth, Saro enjoyed a short, well-deserved break before we jumped back into training mode. We spent that time really zeroing in on our barrel and pole patterns, running drills to strengthen our timing and communication. I made a few adjustments to our approach, and Saro responded beautifully
All of that effort paid off at our next event, the Madoc Fair. Saro absolutely shined, taking home second place in poles with a new personal best, and another second-place finish in keyhole! Those runs were incredibly rewarding and reminded me how far we’ve come together. We also had an amazing dash run and came so close to placing in flags, which made me even more excited for what’s ahead.
We wrapped up September by setting our sights on October—a much busier and exciting month to come. Our main focus has been on continuing to build trust, confidence, and teamwork. Saro has grown so much over the past few weeks, both physically and mentally, and I couldn’t be happier with how she’s progressing. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the next stretch of our season.
