Reinventing Racehorses Trainers Challenge

2026 Trainers Challenge is well into the planning stages!

Our 2026 Trainers have officially been chosen… and now it’s time to finalize the horses who will join them for this year’s Reinventing Racehorses Trainers Challenge.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be finalizing the six Standardbreds who will spend 12 weeks working alongside our trainers as they begin preparing for life beyond the racetrack.

Every year, this challenge proves something we already know deep down: Standardbreds are capable of so much more than people often give them credit for. They are versatile, intelligent, willing horses who thrive when given the opportunity to learn and grow.

We are currently looking for sound Standardbreds who may be a good fit for the challenge — ideally horses who have raced or trained within the last couple of years and are ready to begin their next chapter.

As always, one of the most exciting parts of this event is watching these horses transform over the summer and seeing the partnerships that develop along the way. By September, these horses will showcase just how incredible this breed truly is.

If you think you may have a horse that could be suitable for the 2026 Challenge, please reach out to us. We are especially looking throughout Ontario and Quebec, with a strong focus along the Ottawa/Trois-Rivières corridor and the London/Guelph/Hanover regions.

Challenge season is officially underway.

2026 PLANNING

This exciting 12-week event, commencing on June 14, 2026, will showcase the versatility and talent of retired Standardbred racehorses as they embark on a transformative journey with six dedicated trainers. The program not only highlights the potential of these incredible horses but also paves the way for their next chapter in life through adoption.

Challenge Format

Six trainers will be paired with six Standardbred horses. Trainers and horses will compete in a series of challenges over a 12-week timeline designed to demonstrate skill, adaptability, and teamwork. The event culminates in a virtual finale, where winners will be announced, and prizes awarded.

Adoption Opportunity

At the end of the 12 weeks, all six horses will be available for adoption, however trainers will have the first option to adopt their assigned horse.

Trainer Benefits

Trainers will be reimbursed a stipend of up to $300 per month to cover care needs for the horses during their time. (vet and farrier is covered above the $300). Trainers will also receive a portion of the final winnings based on their performance.

Points System

The Reinventing Racehorses Challenge operates on a dynamic point system designed to motivate trainers to set and achieve meaningful goals with their horses. Points will be earned based on the completion of training milestones, performance in designated challenges, and active participation in providing updates on their progress.

During the finale challenges, bonus points will be awarded for showcasing exceptional skills, creativity, and teamwork, as evaluated by a panel of judges. This system not only encourages goal-setting and accountability but also celebrates the transformative journey of each trainer-horse pair throughout the challenge.
