Reinventing Racehorses Trainers Challenge
Time To Pick Our 2026 Trainers!
We are heading into our 3rd Annual Reinventing Racehorses Trainers Challenge, and we’re excited to begin looking for six trainers across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes to take part in the 2026 challenge. This program is all about showcasing just how versatile, capable, and underrated Standardbreds are once given the chance to step into new careers. For 2026, we have a few thoughtful tweaks planned to help make the challenge even bigger and better. The Trainers Challenge continues to wrap up with a virtual finale, meaning there is no need to ship to a central location, allowing trainers to participate from their own barns while keeping the focus on training, progress, and adoption!
Deadline to apply is February 27, 2026
2026 PLANNING
This exciting 12-week event, commencing on June 14, 2026, will showcase the versatility and talent of retired Standardbred racehorses as they embark on a transformative journey with six dedicated trainers. At the end of the 12 weeks, all six horses will be available for adoption, however trainers will have the first option to adopt their assigned horse.
Trainer Benefits
Trainers will be reimbursed a stipend of up to $300 per month to cover care needs for the horses during their time. (vet and farrier is covered above the $300). Trainers will also receive a portion of the final winnings based on their performance.
Points System
The Reinventing Racehorses Challenge operates on a dynamic point system designed to motivate trainers to set and achieve meaningful goals with their horses. Points will be earned based on the completion of training milestones, performance in designated challenges, and active participation in providing updates on their progress.
During the finale challenges, bonus points will be awarded for showcasing exceptional skills, creativity, and teamwork, as evaluated by a panel of judges.
